Patient SMS Opt-in & Consent — ManageMyStaffing
Last updated: May 2026 · This page documents how patients opt in to the post-discharge follow-up SMS program. This program is separate from the staff scheduling SMS program documented at /sms-opt-in.
Who receives messages
This program is for patients discharged from skilled-nursing, long-term-care, and post-acute facilities that use ManageMyStaffing. Patients are enrolled at the facility's intake step by the facility's clinical staff after the patient (or the patient's authorized representative) signs the optional Section 7 of the intake paperwork. The SMS section is explicitly optional and is not required for admission or for medical care. There is no public sign-up — a patient can only be enrolled if they were intake-processed at a contracted facility and signed Section 7.
How patients opt in
At intake, the facility's care team reviews Section 7 (Optional SMS Post-Discharge Follow-Up) of the intake paperwork with the patient. The patient writes their mobile number, reads the consent text, checks the box, signs, and dates the section. The signed paperwork is retained in the patient's chart. A facility staff member then enters the patient and their consented mobile number into ManageMyStaffing along with the consent date.

Opt-out (STOP) and help (HELP)
- STOP — reply STOP to any message to immediately unsubscribe. The system records the opt-out and stops all further patient SMS to that number.
- HELP — reply HELP to receive a phone number for the discharging facility plus the support email for ManageMyStaffing.
- Patients may also opt out by calling the discharging facility directly. The facility updates the patient's record in ManageMyStaffing, which immediately stops further SMS.
- Standard message and data rates may apply per the recipient's wireless carrier plan.
Frequency & content
- Up to 2 messages per discharge. Message frequency varies.
- All SMS are transactional only — appointment reminders, medication reminders, and a recovery check-in. No marketing.
- The program is per-facility and per-patient — patients only receive messages tied to the facility that discharged them.
- Mobile numbers are not shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
Privacy, HIPAA & data handling
ManageMyStaffing operates as a HIPAA Business Associate under signed Business Associate Agreements with each facility. Patient mobile numbers are stored encrypted at rest, are never shared with third parties for marketing, and are deleted from active use once the patient's post-discharge program ends.
